Hercules Schools Evacuated During Bomb Scare
HERCULES (BCN) ―
Authorities Wednesday night completed a search of Hercules Middle and High School, which was evacuated Wednesday afternoon following an anonymous bomb threat, a city spokeswoman said.
The search concluded around 7:30 p.m. and investigators did not locate anything suspicious, spokeswoman Michelle Harrington said. The school will be open Thursday morning.
Four bomb-sniffing dogs from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, a fifth dog from the FBI, a Walnut Creek police bomb squad and Pinole police officers assisted Hercules police in the investigation.
The school received the anonymous call around 1 p.m. and notified police immediately, Harrington said. Additionally, two threats were left on the school's answering machine. Harrington said the voice was described as a male juvenile and the same subject likely made all three threats.
Officers were already on campus when the call came in, investigating reports of a suspicious odor that Harrington said proved unfounded.
The two incidents were not related, she said.
Students were evacuated around 1:45 p.m. and held in athletic fields until police released them at 2:30 p.m., according to Harrington.
