UC System To Slash Enrollment By 6 Percent
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ―
The University of California system wants to slash its enrollment by 6 percent next fall to deal with state budget cutbacks.
UC officials on Friday proposed reducing the freshman enrollment by 2,300 students.
The cuts would not affect the UCLA or UC Berkeley campuses.
Officials said the state hasn't provided enough funding to keep up with expanding enrollment.
The California State University system also is dealing with budget problems.
Officials there recently announced that they would freeze salaries for the chancellor and senior administrators.
The 23-campus system also will implement a hiring freeze.
