Sacto Student Collapses, Dies During PE Class

SACRAMENTO (AP) ― Counselors are helping students at a Sacramento high school after a freshman collapsed and died Monday afternoon.

Twin Rivers Unified School District spokeswoman Trinette Marquis says the boy was warming up for a physical education class at Grant Union High School-West Campus when he collapsed.

Teachers did not notice any problems with 15-year-old Jaazaniah McGee after he completed a quarter-mile jog with classmates and returned to the school gym.

After he collapsed, he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say the teenager had no history of medical problems.

It was the second death this month of a Sacramento-area high school student during a physical activity.

On Sept. 2, 14-year-old Center High School student Brandon Mitchell Baker collapsed and died after a junior varsity soccer practice.
