Magnitude 3.1 Quake Shakes Piedmont, Oakland

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 struck at 4:19 p.m. Friday near Piedmont.
According to the USGS, the earthquake had a depth of 8 miles and was centered 1 mile northeast of Piedmont and 3 miles north northeast of Oakland.
There were no reports of any damage or injuries from local police and fire departments.
Bay Area Rapid Transit officials reported temporary system-wide delays of about five minutes after trains were briefly halted to check the tracks for any potential damage. Trains returned to their normal schedule by 6:30 p.m.
The USGS indicated there were reports that people felt the quake shaking as far south as Pacifica and as far north as Benicia.
