SAN JOSE (CBS 5) ― It's a drug that destroys lives, careers and families. CBS 5 reporter Thuy Vu presents a series of reports on rising methamphetamine use in the Bay Area and the disturbing toll it takes on users.

The methamphetamine crisis is especially bad in Santa Clara County, where it has become the drug of choice. Studies show nearly 70 percent of drug users in the South Bay prefer meth, many of them women.

Part 1: More South Bay Women Abusing Meth
Authorities are finding an alarming trend among women in Santa Clara County. More and more have become addicted to methamphetamine, losing everything in the process.

The trend was discovered in a federal study of inmates in Santa Clara County jails. Urine tests found 43 percent of women jailed had meth in their system at the time of their arrest.

The alarming trend of methamphetamine abuse has forced Santa Clara County to come up with unique approaches to the problem.

The county has developed "House on the Hill," a treatment center designed for mothers addicted to meth. They have also created a Family Wellness Court, which provide extensive services for mothers to get back on their feet.

Part 4: Silicon Valley Billionaire On Mission To Fight Meth
Silicon Valley billionaire Tom Siebel sold his firm to Oracle for $6 billion. Now his mission has shifted to fight methamphetamine use in Montana.

His Montana Meth Project was launched to curb rampant methamphetamine use in the Big Sky state. Siebel's campaign, which uses hard-hitting ads was so effective, at least six other states plan to use his campaign.
