Jury Selection Begins In Wiesel SF Assault Trial
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ―
Jury selection is under way in the trial of a New Jersey man accused of stalking Holocaust scholar Elie Wiesel and assaulting him in a hotel elevator.
Prospective jurors were questioned Monday in San Francisco Superior Court in the case of Eric Hunt, who allegedly dragged the 79-year-old Nobel Laureate off an elevator in February 2007 after asking for an interview.
Hunt has entered a not guilty plea by reason of insanity to charges of attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, battery, stalking, elder abuse and hate crimes. The 24-year-old is being held in the psychiatric unit of a San Francisco County jail.
Wiesel is the author of the memoir "Night," an account of his ordeal in Nazi death camps.
