Redwood City Woman Sentenced In Tonga Royals Crash
REDWOOD CITY (AP) ―
A Redwood City woman is going to jail for killing a Tongan royal couple and their driver in a 2006 car crash.
A San Mateo County Superior Court judge on Wednesday sentenced 20-year-old Edith Delgado to two years in prison and three years probation.
A judge issued the same sentence last year, but allowed Delgado to remain free while she appealed the case.
A state appeals court in August upheld Delgado's conviction on three counts of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and the two-year prison sentence.
Prosecutors say Delgado was speeding on U.S. 101 in Menlo Park when she sideswiped a sport utility vehicle carrying 55-year-old Prince Tuipelehake and his wife, 46-year-old Princess Kaimana Aleamotua Tukuaho. Their driver, 36-year-old Vinisia Hefa, also died in the July 5, 2006, crash.
