Another Oakland Restaurant Hit By Takeover Robbery

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

OAKLAND (CBS 5 / KCBS / BCN) ― Oakland police were investigating another takeover robbery Monday, the third in less than a week.

The latest takeover-style robbery occured early Monday morning at the Kerry House restaurant.

The robbery of the eatery on the 4000 block of Piedmont Avenue was reported around 1:40 a.m., police said. It was the second Piedmont Avenue business to be robbed in this style within a week.

No suspects were arrested, and no additional information regarding the robbery was immediately available.

This latest string of takeover-style robberies at Oakland restaurants began last week, according to police. The first robbery in the series was reported the night of July 26, two additional robberies occurred July 27, and a takeover robbery of a Mexican restaurant occurred July 28, police said.

No other customers were in the restaurant when Monday's robbery occurred, investigators said. Like the previous holdups, the suspect entered at closing time.

Authorities quickly responded and searched the area with a helicopter and a dog, according to police. The suspect, believed to have fled on foot, was not found.

The suspect in the robbery was described as a black man in his 30s standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds, police said.
