Judge To Rule On MD Sentence In Stanford Suicide

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

REDWOOD CITY (BCN) ― A San Mateo County Superior Court judge will decide Wednesday whether a Colorado doctor sentenced to nine months in jail for illegally prescribing anti-depressants to a Stanford University student who later committed suicide will serve his sentence in California or Colorado.

Christian Hageseth, 68, prescribed the medication to 19-year-old Stanford student John McKay over the Internet in June 2005. McKay committed suicide two months later.

Hageseth pleaded no contest in February to illegally practicing medicine without a California license and agreed to spend up to a year in county jail.

He was sentenced April 17 to nine months in jail.

Judge James Ellis was expected to address the sentencing issue earlier this week but the case was continued to Wednesday.

Hageseth is out of custody on $100,000 bail.
