SF Police Crack Down On Tenderloin Robberies
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
San Francisco police arrested 12 people in two undercover robbery abatement operations in the past week targeting crime in the city's Tenderloin district and Market Street corridor, police announced Wednesday.
The effort was part of an ongoing plan to reduce crime in the area for residents, merchants and tourists.
This recent operation was aimed specifically at reducing violence against homeless people and Tenderloin residents, and involved undercover officers "posing as potential (robbery) victims in what are often dangerous situations," police said.
On Friday afternoon, police nabbed six men on Sixth and Seventh streets, who were booked on robbery or theft charges, according to police. The men are all between the ages of 21 and 54; three were from San Francisco, one was from San Leandro, and the other two had no local address.
On Sunday afternoon, police arrested another six people, including one woman, in the areas of Jones and Leavenworth streets and Golden Gate Avenue in the Tenderloin district.
The suspects, all between the ages of 41 and 48, were also all booked on robbery or theft charges. Three were from San Francisco and three had no local address.
As part of the ongoing effort in the area, police are also conducting narcotics and fugitive recovery operations and uniformed foot patrols.
