Man In Suit & Tie Robs San Mateo Bank

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SAN MATEO (BCN) ― San Mateo police are searching for a man who robbed a Citibank location in the middle of the day on Thursday by acting as a customer before notifying an open teller he had a gun without ever showing any weapons.

A black man in a dark suit with a white, collared shirt, a black tie and sunglasses walked into the south entrance of the bank in the unit block of West Hillsdale Boulevard just after noon. He waited in line, told an open teller he had a gun and demanded money, according to the Police Department.

He took the undisclosed amount of money and fled through the same doors but the bank's surveillance camera captured four pictures before he left.

Police are describing him as a 25-year-old man who weighs about 200 pounds and is about 6 feet tall. He had black hair that was tightly pulled back into a bun, a goatee, ear-length sideburns and possibly one gold tooth.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the San Mateo Police Department Investigations Services Unit at (650) 522-7650 or the Anonymous Secret Witness Hotline at (650) 522-7676.

Police are also reminding people how to be helpful and safe in the event of a robbery by not panicking or asking questions, not resisting, observing physical characteristics such as clothing, tattoos and scars, observing what weapons are used and what direction was taken after the incident.
