Bomb Squad Removes Dynamite Found In SJ Home

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SAN JOSE (BCN) ― The San Jose Police Department's bomb squad remained at a San Jose home Thursday evening after removing dynamite and blasting caps that were discovered while officers were serving a search warrant.

The residence is in the 1700 block of Wyrick Avenue, and San Jose police Officer Enrique Garcia said homes in the neighborhood had been evacuated. Wyrick Avenue has been shut down.

Police received a call around 10:45 a.m. from Los Altos police requesting assistance in serving a search and arrest warrant for a theft and burglary suspect out of Los Altos, Garcia said.

Officers had information that the suspect had weapons registered to him and was under a domestic violence restraining order, Garcia said.

After taking the suspect into custody at his home on Wyrick Avenue, investigators found several sticks of dynamite and blasting caps inside the residence.

The bomb squad responded and was remained at the scene around 4:45 p.m. after removing the explosive materials and searching for any materials they may have missed.

"They will continue their search of the home before they dispose of (the dynamite and blasting caps)," Garcia said.
