Bloody Night: 3 Dead, 2 Wounded In SF Shootings
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / KCBS / BCN) ―
Two deadly shootings in San Francisco claimed three lives within 40 minutes early Saturday morning, according to police.
Detectives are investigating a double homicide in the city's Sunset district and another murder that took place in the Excelsior neighborhood.
In the Excelsior, one man was shot to death and another suffered life-threatening injuries near Athens Street and Excelsior Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. The survivor was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where police said he was in critical condition. The victims' names were not released.
About half an hour later, two men were shot to death near 19th Avenue and Irving Street. The San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office identified 23-year-old Derek Butch of San Francisco and 31-year-old Jason De La Cruz of Daly City as the victims of that shooting.
The circumstances surrounding the double-fatal shooting have come to light after extensive witness interviews, according to Sgt. Neville Gittens.
Gittens said the two victims had been at a bar before they crossed the street to a pizza shop at 1833 Irving St. Outside of the pizza shop, de la Cruz and Butch got into an altercation with a group that was already there.
A man believed to be an acquaintance of the group reportedly got out of a nearby parked vehicle and shot the victims before fleeing southbound on 19th Avenue in the car, Gittens said.
The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The suspect is described as an Asian male in his early 20s with a thin build. He has short dark hair that is spiky in the front and was last seen wearing a black and orange San Francisco Giants jacket and blue jeans, said Gittens.
The suspect vehicle is a mid-90s dark blue two-door car, either an Acura Integra or a Honda Civic.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department tip line at (415) 575-4444.
Another man was injured in a shooting about 9:45 p.m. Friday in the 3000 block of 19th street. Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. The unidentified man was taken to San Francisco General and was expected to survive.
