Oakland police are beefing up patrols in commercial areas following a new string of restaurant robberies.
Police said masked or hooded gunmen have burst into eight restaurants from Piedmont Avenue to East Oakland and robbed customers and clerks over the past month.
So far, no one has been injured during the holdups, which follow a similar wave of so-called 'takeover' robberies earlier this year.
Police are asking merchants and patrons to watch out for suspicious people or behavior. Officers will be out in marked and unmarked vehicles, and city officials will work with merchants to install more surveillance cameras.
Police are offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to arrests in the robberies.
