A man accused of killing a pedestrian and injuring 18 others in a hit-and-run rampage more than a year ago will stand trial for 35 felony counts.
A judge ordered 30-year-old Omeed Aziz Popal to be tried for 16 counts of attempted murder, 16 counts of assault with a deadly weapon and single counts of assault on a peace officer, battery on a peace officer and evading a police officer.
Popal attempted suicide last year after a San Francisco judge found he was competent to stand trial for the Aug. 29 rampage.
His family and his lawyer say he is mentally ill. He pleaded not guilty last month to charges.
Popal is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Jan. 22 and will likely stand trial later this year.
