Man Arrested In Pleasant Hill Murder, Arson

PLEASANT HILL (BCN) ― A man who was found slain inside his Pleasant Hill home Thursday evening has been identified as 42-year-old Manuel Gwin, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

Police discovered Gwin's body at around 7:40 p.m. after a woman called to report that she had gone to his house at 2931 Dorothy Drive and found what appeared to be blood on his front porch, Pleasant Hill police said.

Responding officers found Gwin dead inside the house. An autopsy was being conducted this morning, but police have said Gwin was the victim of a homicide, the city's first since November 2007.

Police arrested 39-year-old Robert Hoselton on suspicion of murder and for a suspected arson fire that happened just hours before Gwin's body was discovered.

According to police, Hoselton had allegedly gone to his estranged wife's home at 1600 Mary Drive and set it on fire.

When police arrived at 4:35 p.m., they found the garage fully engulfed in flames and were told that that Hoselton was still inside.

Police later found Hoselton in the backyard suffering from self-inflicted injuries, police said.

He was arrested for arson and violating a restraining order and then taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Before he was transported, witnesses said Hoselton jumped off the stretcher as paramedics were trying to put him into the ambulance, and officers had to chase and catch him.

While Hoselton was in the hospital, police allegedly found evidence that connected him to Gwin's killing and arrested him on suspicion of murder as well, police said.
