3 Dead In Santa Clara Office Park Shooting

SANTA CLARA (CBS 5 / KCBS / AP) ― Three people were shot dead at a Santa Clara office park on Friday by a recently laid-off worker who apparently sought retribution against his former employer and opened fire with a handgun, authorities said.

Police launched an intensive search for the fleeing gunman, identified to them by witnesses as Jing Hua Wu, 47, of Mountain View.

The shootings happened just before 4 p.m. inside the semiconductor company SiPort Inc., which is located at building # 7 of the office complex at 3255 Scott Boulevard and Montgomery Drive.

The victims were two men and a woman, Santa Clara Police Lt. Mike Sellers said. Police identified two of the victims as CEO Sid Agrawal and Briah Pugh, Vice President of Operations. The identity of the third victim has not been released, pending notification of family.

About 40 officers combed the area looking for Wu, described by police as about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds.

Police say Wu fled the office park campus, which is located between San Tomas Expressway and Bowers Avenue, in a rented silver Mercury Mariner SUV, California license plate 6CJU602.

"He could be anywhere," Sellers said. "He's considered armed and dangerous. If you see him don't approach him, call the police."

Wu is described as an Asian man, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 170 pounds, with black hair and black eyes. Anyone who spots Wu should not approach him but should instead call Santa Clara police at (408) 615-4700 or 911.

Meanwhile, SiPort spokesman Sunder Velamuri said the families are still in the process of being informed about the details of the shooting.

He told CBS 5, "I just want people to know that the people that died… they are very, very fine human beings that we lost. Family people with little kids."

"We are a small company … and this is so terrible," he added.

Velamuri also confirmed that he is an engineer for the company. He was not able to confirm how long he was working at SiPort, but did say the company is only four years old. Velamuri refused to go into details of the shooting or why Wu was laid off.
