2 Suspected In Kidnapping Attempt Of Newark Woman

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

NEWARK (BCN) ― Police are searching for two suspects in an attempted kidnapping Thursday that they said was very similar to another incident that occurred in the same area just last week.

Today's incident was reported to police around 9:30 a.m. after a 53-year-old woman was approached at the intersection Normandy Drive and Lido Boulevard, police said.

A newer model, full-size red pick-up truck with two males inside pulled up next to the woman and one of the suspects wearing a ski mask grabbed the woman and attempted to pull her into the truck, police said.

The victim was able to scream and break loose. The masked suspect got back into the vehicle and the two fled the area, according to police.

One suspect was described as possibly being in his 30s, wearing dark clothing and having long, straight, shoulder-length hair with a light complexion. The other suspect is in his 30s, possibly white, with short, dark hair.

On Sept. 9, a 16-year-old girl was getting into a vehicle in the same location when a male dressed in dark clothing attempted to pull her into nearby bushes, said police. She struggled and was able to get away and the suspect fled the scene.

Anyone with information about either incident should call Newark police at (510) 578-4237 or remain anonymous by calling (510) 794-1400 ext. 334.
