People in San Francisco's Mission District presented a clear message of unity Wednesday night, despite recent gang violence.
From opposite directions, around 200 people marched the streets and met in the middle. The march was in response to a violent weekend in September that left three men dead in two separate shootings.
San Francisco police say they are working to keep groups of young men from filling a power vacuum in areas of the Mission recently abandoned by two major gangs. Capt. Steve Tacchini said refocusing manpower on areas prone to violence has made a dramatic difference, with homicides in the Mission down 82 percent from this time in 2008.
