'I-5 Strangler' Sentenced To Six Life Sentences

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

STOCKTON (CBS 5 / AP) ― A convicted murderer has been sentenced to six consecutive life terms for killing six women throughout Central California during the 1970s and 80s.

Seventy-year-old Roger Reece Kibbe already was serving a life sentence for the 1987 strangling of a teen prostitute when he pleaded guilty in September to six other slayings.

As part of his plea deal, Kibbe agreed to help authorities find the remains of Lou Ellen Burleigh, who disappeared from Walnut Creek in 1977. The other women were Lora Heedrick, Barbara Ann Scott, Stephanie Brown, Charmaine Sabrah and Katherine Quinones.

Kibbe's victims were found along Interstate 5, giving him the nickname "I-5 Strangler."

San Joaquin County prosecutors say they decided not to pursue the death penalty because of Kibbe's age and slow pace of executions in the state.
