A 30-year-old hotel worker charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a hotel guest Sunday pleaded not guilty Friday in San Francisco Superior Court.
Daly City resident Christian Rojas pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary and sexual battery and was assigned a public defender, San Francisco District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Erica Derryck said.
Officers responded to the Clift Hotel, 495 Geary St., after a 39-year-old woman reported the alleged assault around 5 a.m., San Francisco police spokesman Neville Gittens said. Rojas allegedly entered the victim's room using a key card, sexually assaulted her and left.
Police worked with hotel staff to determine the identity of the suspect, Gittens said.
Officials determined that the key used to enter the room was assigned to Rojas, who works in the hotel's housekeeping department, according to Gittens.
Rojas was placed under arrest in the lobby of the hotel before being booked into jail on charges of burglary and sexual battery, according to Gittens.
"We are cooperating with the police investigation," Clift Hotel spokeswoman Elizabeth Grillos said. "Other than that we don't have a comment."
Rojas could face up to six years in state prison for the burglary charge and up to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the charge of intent to rape, according to San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris.
Rojas is currently being held on $200,000 bail. His next hearing is scheduled for April 2.
