SF Victim Identified In Hwy 280 Hit-&-Run

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― The San Francisco medical examiner's office Sunday identified 26-year-old Amilcar Rodriguez Maldonado as the victim of an apparent hit-and-run Friday morning on Interstate Highway 280 in the city.

Rodriguez Maldonado was struck while apparently walking in the slow lane of southbound Interstate Highway 280, just south of the San Jose Avenue off-ramp, at about 2 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Shawn Chase.

He appeared to have been run over "a minimum of two times," said Chase.

There were no abandoned vehicles nearby, and no signs of skid marks where Rodriguez Maldonado was found, Chase said.

Rodriguez Maldonado had an ID card from the consulate of El Salvador, according to Chase, however the medical examiner's office identified him as a resident of San Francisco.

Based on debris left at the scene, investigators believe one of the vehicles that struck Rodriguez Maldonado was an older model Honda or Acura.

The vehicle would be missing its right-side mirror, its windshield wipers and likely has damage to both its hood and windshield.

The vehicle may be blue, Chase said, because the side mirror had been spray-painted blue.

The CHP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
