Hans Reiser Attacked In Prison

SAN QUENTIN (CBS 5 / KCBS) ― An Oakland man, imprisoned at San Quentin for the murder of his wife, is recovering after he was beaten up by several prisoners this week.

Corrections Lt. Sam Robinson said that Hans Reiser suffered some cuts and bruises after he was jumped by several inmates on their way back to their cells after a morning meal.

Reiser was checked out and treated for his injuries. The prison has put him in a special cell, isolated from the general population as a precaution.

The former Linux computer programmer was found guilty of first degree murder for killing his wife Nina back in September of 2006.

But in a plea deal, he was sentenced for second-degree murder after leading authorities to his wife's remains, which were buried in the Oakland Hills.

The deal spared Reiser the death penalty but prosecutors said he will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.
