Sex Assault At SF's Clift Hotel; Employee Arrested

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / KCBS / BCN) ― A hotel worker was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of using a key to enter a woman's room at San Francisco's Clift Hotel and then sexually assaulting her, police said.

The victim said the assault occured about 5 a.m. in her guest room at the hotel in the 400 block of Geary Street, near Union Square.

"She reported that a person entered her room, using one of the keys, and sexually assaulted her," said SFPD Sgt. Neville Gittens.

Hotel staff were able to figure out whose key card was used to enter the room, and police then arrested 30-year-old Christian Rojas in the lobby of the hotel.

"The officers that responded worked with the hotel staff, and they were able to figure out, based on the time that the incident occurred, who had actually gained access to the room," said Gittens.

Rojas, who works in the hotel's housekeeping department, was booked into jail on charges of burglary and sexual battery, according to Gittens.

"We are cooperating with the police investigation,'' Clift Hotel spokeswoman Elizabeth Grillos said. "Other than that we don't have a comment.''
