40-To-Life For Man In Burlingame 101 Shooting

REDWOOD CITY (BCN) ― A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for fatally shooting another man from a car on U.S. Highway 101 in Burlingame more than two years ago.

Doyal Webber, convicted of second-degree murder in February after a monthlong trial for the Sept. 30, 2007, shooting death of 25-year-old Lon Dell Wilson, was sentenced Friday in San Mateo County Superior Court, Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Nearly a dozen members of Wilson's family addressed the court prior to Webber's sentencing, many saying they had forgiven Webber and hoped he would make himself productive and help others while in prison, Wagstaffe said.

Wagstaffe said the shooting was believed to have been a case of road rage, and that the two vehicles were driving alongside each other on northbound Highway 101 for several miles.

Webber claimed during the trial that Wilson had been driving erratically and aggressively in his silver 1990 Honda Accord, and that he had fired several shots at Wilson to protect himself and his friends.

A bullet struck Wilson in the right arm and traveled to his chest.

He lost control of his car and it overturned, landing beside the highway.
Doyal later died at San Francisco General Hospital.

Wilson worked at a Hayward Pepsi factory and had been studying criminal law, his family said.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Mohammad Rabah, of Hayward, had also been charged with murder but was acquitted in February, Wagstaffe said.
