Teen Gunned Down Outside Of SF High School

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― Witnesses to the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in broad daylight Tuesday across from a San Francisco high school saw the young man believed to be the shooter escape in a white car, San Francisco police said.

The shooting took place about 12:10 p.m. in front of Phillip and Sala Burton Academic High School at 400 Mansell St. in southeastern San Francisco near the Bayview District.

SFPD Sgt. Wilfred Williams said the victim, who was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital, was not a student at the school and was not a San Francisco resident. His name has not yet been released by the San Francisco medical examiner's office.

Williams said information from witnesses about the suspect or suspects was "unfortunately, very vague."

Williams said a young man estimated to be about 17 or 18 years old reportedly got out of the suspect vehicle, described only as a white car, shot the victim in the street, and then left.

The motive for the shooting is unclear, and police do not know whether there was anyone else was inside the vehicle, Williams said.

The shooting prompted a temporary lockdown of the school campus while police determined suspects were no longer in the area.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked by the SFPD to call the police department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
