4 Accused Of Counterfeit Ring Out Of Antioch Hotel
ANTIOCH (CBS 5 / AP) ―
Four people are facing charges after local and federal authorities say they broke up a counterfeiting ring operating out of an East Bay hotel.
Oakley police Chief Chris Thorsen said investigators uncovered information about an operation that was using high-tech equipment to convert $1 bills so they would look like $100 bills.
Police and Secret Service agents went to an Antioch hotel Monday where they say they found suspects using computer imaging and chemical washing to convert the bills.
Four people were taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy and counterfeiting.
Thorsen said investigators are trying to determine how many phony bills have been circulated.
