A 13-year-old was in stable condition after being hit when gunfire erupted following a memorial service in Oakland for a 15-year-old fatally shot by police last week.
Authorities said the youth was struck in the ankle when gunmen driving by in two separate cars opened fire toward a crowd Monday night.
Police Sgt. David Cronin said investigators suspected the shooters belonged to a gang considered rivals to the group to which the slain boy allegedly belonged.
Homicide investigators said three officers shot and killed Jose Luis Buenrostro around noon last Wednesday when he pointed a sawed-off rifle at them.
Mourners rushed back into the church when the shooting started after the service. Authorities said no one else was hit.
