Mother In Custody For Death Of Oakland Baby

OAKLAND (AP) ― An Oakland woman is in custody after police say she called 911 and told dispatchers she had drowned her baby boy in a bathtub.

A police spokesman says when officers responded to the call Tuesday evening in an Eastlake high-rise apartment building they found the 16-month old dead and the mother suffering from cuts to the wrist.

Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the baby. They say the child may have been dead several hours before the woman called 911.

The mother was treated at the scene, arrested and taken to Highland Hospital.

Authorities have not released her name, or of the child.
