Policy Shift Leads To Massive Vallejo Water Bills
VALLEJO (CBS 5 / BCN) ―
For 110 years, homeowners in one part of the North Bay have not had to pay for their water, but the sweet deal is over.
Residents of one Vallejo neighborhood were granted free water in perpetuity, up to 75,000 gallons a year, back in 1898.
The city's water department recently raised their rates and decided to start charging for every drop over an annual free allotment. The result has been some eye popping bills for residents.
In his video report, Jeffrey Schaub talks to one woman whose water bill is now more expensive than her mortgage.
