CBS 5 Viewer Shares Job Success Story
Former Startup Entrepreneur Finds New Career In Health Care
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ―
With all of the negative stories around unemployment, there are some positive stories of success. Emily White shares how she found a new career and new passion, by being open minded.
White is not shy about her recent unemployment. She lost her job and the startup company she used her life savings to build.
"There were highs and there were lows. The lows were pretty bad because some days I couldn't get out of bed," she said.
The start-up failure led to nearly two years of no work in her field.
White said, "I was always positive. I was going to get hired by all of these places that interviewed me. Then I was always in shock when I didn't get hired."
More than 40 job interviews led Emily to rethink her path. She took a temporary job as a sales clerk just to pay the bills all the while planming her next big move.
She has this advice: "Focus on what industry you want to be in. Chose an industry that is growing."
White discovered that the Elder Care industry was booming. Because she had been a social worker years before, it seemed like a good fit. An ad on Craigslist led to a job. Emily is now Communications Director at the Mission Villa Dementia Facilty.
Emily's advice to other job seekers is really very simple. Get out of bed each day. Exercise. Eat well. Keep a schedule. Most importantly, try to see the world with a different view.
"Think about things you might do that you never in a million years would have considered doing," she said.
