Recruiters Offer 1,700 Jobs At CBS 5 HIREvent

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― The job hunt was on in the Bay Area where recruiters were looking for people to fill 1,700 jobs. Thousands of job hunters met face to face with recruiters at the CBS 5 and California Job Journal HIREvent in San Francisco on Tuesday.

This was only the first in a series of CBS 5 job fairs. But job hunters turned out in a line that snaked out of the building and wrapped around the block. Many came in hopes of nabbing one of hundreds of posted jobs.

At San Francisco's HIREvent, the line formed well before doors opened at 11:00 a.m. Word's out that job fairs like this one really do have positions to fill.

Linguistics specialist Norma Perez attended the event. She was found making a career switch while she spoke to a recruiter from California Prison Health Care Services.

"I'm more open and positive to where jobs are, like medical, paralegal, and definitely to areas that seem to be going strong," Perez said.

Agencies like Pacific Gas & Electric Company, and government firms like Air Resource Board and Veterans Affairs, just to name a few, are hiring.

New numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show job opening rates are highest in health care services and education. Sure enough, those industries were well represented at Tuesday's job fair by Stanford Medical Center, University of San Francisco, and City College of San Francisco.

And history has shown that in tough economic times, the need for good government workers grows. Even with furloughs and potential lay-offs, government jobs are in hot.

Anyone who could not get into Tuesday's job fair can apply for jobs on the California Job Journal website.
