30M Americans Eligible For Credit Card Refund

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― Over the past few days, millions of Americans have received a letter telling them they may be eligible for a refund of at least $25 from their credit card companies.

As many as 30 million people nationwide are receiving notices from the U.S. District Court in Philadelphia, informing them they may be entitled to at least $25 from a settlement in a class-action lawsuit.  The lawsuit claims Visa, Mastercard and Diner's Club overcharged customers for foreign currency conversions when they traveled overseas.

The $336 million settlement covers fees that were paid over a ten-year period, from February 1996 to November 2006.  If you have all of your receipts, you can itemize.  But if you did not travel much, you can choose the basic $25 refund instead.
