More Ford Owners Report Paint Problems

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ―

Karen Walton's 2003 Ford Explorer has a beautiful factory custom-color paint job -- until you take a closer look. Paint is peeling off the roof and luggage rack. Her $30,000 SUV is starting to rust.

Karen wasn't sure what to do until she saw a segment of ConsumerWatch last month.

"It was a young lady who was having the same peeling problem as I was. She had an Expedition," said Walton.

In Janet Behr's case, a lab test confirmed her Ford paint issues started at the factory. So Ford paid for her repair costs after a call from ConsumerWatch.

Karen is wondering if Ford will pay for her repairs. But her dealership says the car is out of warranty. And Ford Customer Care tells Karen it has no reports of peeling paint. But we learned that Ford issued a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the paint problems in 2000-2005 Ford Explorers and Expeditions.

After a call from ConsumerWatch, Ford scheduled an inspection for Karen that day. Karen hopes her persistence will pay off and benefit other Ford owners.

"I hope this makes a difference. It's not just one person," said Walton.

If you have a problem with your Ford paint job, call their Customer Care line at (800) 392-FORD.
