SF Fleet Week Returns 10/8 - 10/13
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ―
Fleet Week makes its 29th annual appearance, October 8-13, 2009 -- attracting an estimated one million spectators along the San Francisco waterfront.
CVS/pharmacy, the Bay Area's newest retail pharmacy, is the presenting sponsor of Fleet Week 2009.
Inaugurated in 1981, this popular annual event brings together U.S. Navy, Marines Corps, U.S. Air Force and Coast Guard forces for a celebration in the water and skies -- highlighted by a two-day air show over the weekend featuring the Navy's Blue Angels.
Fleet Week Chairman Ed Leonard said, "Fleet Week is a Bay Area tradition since 1981.
These are difficult economic times for free outdoor events, and the support of companies like CVS/pharmacy makes this event possible. We welcome our new neighbor, CVS/pharmacy, to the Bay Area and are pleased that they have committed to sponsoring Fleet Week."
A variety of family-oriented special events will be staged along the waterfront. The Marina Green will have an entertainment area.
Aquatic Park Fisherman's Wharf and PIER 39 will also have events and viewing areas.
The event will be live on the radio, listeners can tune into KSFO 560 on Saturday and Sunday. For more information on Fleet Week call 650-599-5057.
