A 12-million dollar renovation of the Harvey Milk Center for Recreational Arts is now complete.
City leaders are calling it a "must do" destination on the western reaches of San Francisco's Duboce Park.
City Parks general manager Jared Blumenfeld thought the late supervisor Harvey Milk would be very proud of the voter-approved two-year project.
"It's got recording studios, it's got darkrooms. Just beautiful, light spaces, community rooms," Blumenfeld said. "It's really architecturally stunning."
The 23,000 square-foot Milk Center includes a large collection of public art, which supervisor Bevan Dufty said is part of what makes San Francisco so special.
"In an expensive city like San Francisco, these are the things that make the quality of life possible for people to stay here. If you can have good schools, good parks, good opportunities for people," Dufty said, "I think that makes all the difference in the world."
The east exterior wall includes a portion of one of the slain supervisors' more famous quotes: "The American dream starts with the neighborhoods."
