Celebrate Asian Pacific American Diversity

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― Since June 1977, a May celebration has recognized the extensive contributions that Asian and Pacific Americans have made to American history.

The observation of Asian Pacific heritage became a month-long holiday in May 1990. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States in May 1843.
