Sacto Co. Lumber Plant Fined $2.4M For Violations
ELK GROVE (AP) ―
A subsidiary of wood-products giant Georgia-Pacific has agreed to pay $2.4 million to Sacramento County for violations of California's health and safety code.
The county's Environmental Management Department said Friday that the fine is believed to be the largest ever paid to a U.S. city or county for an environmental violation.
The settlement also requires Georgia-Pacific Chemicals to complete several corrective actions at its plant in Elk Grove, a Sacramento suburb.
The company produces a variety of wood adhesives and industrial resins at the plant. It was accused of illegally treating and disposing of hazardous waste without state or county approval.
