'Frugal Fatigue' May Save Holiday Shopping Season
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ―
Apparently, some people are tried of cutting back during the down economy. They are bucking the trend and spending some cash in what is being called "frugal fatigue."
"Consumers, I think, have gotten into this mode where they think they should say they're going to be frugal," said Golden Gate University marketing expert Kit Yarrow, who thinks that predictions of a gloomy shopping season may not be true.
The national retail federation predicts a drop of one percent in this year's holiday sales. That's a huge drop from the 10-year average - in which sales usually jump three and a half percent, but better than the drop seen last year. Yarrow said that the figures that those forecasts are made on may not be accurate.
In his video report, Simon Perez looks at the factors behind a potential holiday spending binge.
