The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 33 people, 27 of them child sea scouts, from an 85-foot vessel that was sinking in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Tuesday afternoon, Coast Guard officials said.
The Coast Guard received a report around 12:30 p.m. that the Farallones vessel was sinking a couple hundred yards from the shore in Concord.
Petty Officer Ryan Roberts said the Farallones started taking on water after striking something.
A helicopter and rescue boats were deployed, and all the passengers were removed from the sinking vessel by about 1 p.m.
They were transported safely to the Vallejo ferry terminal by the passenger ferry Intintoli.
No injuries were reported.
