Lawrence Karnow is the weekend weather anchor for CBS 5 Eyewitness News.
Prior to joining CBS 5 in July 1997, Karnow served as the morning weather forecaster at KSBW-TV in Salinas, the city where he grew up.
As a youngster, he fell in love with the weather after seeing a bolt of lightning hit a trash can. Years later, Karnow started at KSBW as an intern, and got his big break when one of the regular weather forecasters became ill.
Karnow received his Bachelor's degree in history from UCLA. He has continued his meteorological studies and is now an accredited meteorologist with the American Meteorological Society. In 2005 he was awarded the Seal of Approval of the American Meteorological Society in recognition of the quality of his weather broadcasts.
Karnow worked at several radio stations in California, including KRKC, KIDD MAGIC 63, KRKC, and KLA. While at KSBW, he worked as a substitute teacher at elementary schools in Salinas.
Karnow is married and lives in Millbrae. His wife, Sharon Chin, is a freelance reporter at CBS 5.
