Eye On The Bay

Dave Stoelk

E-mail Dave Stoelk
Dave Stoelk is a correspondent for CBS 5's Emmy-Award-winning "Eye On The Bay" program.

Dave writes and produces feature stories on people and places in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. His beat is most decidedly "off-beat." He also files travel stories. But his contract stipulates that he must "routinely 'Simonize 'host Brian Hackney's red MG"—the car featured often on "Eye On The Bay" road trips.

Dave is a native of Southern California. He interned at KABC-TV in Los Angeles where he was first exposed to the "magazine" television format on the highly-acclaimed "Eye on LA" series. Dave graduated from Indiana University and landed his first gig at WFYI-TV in Indianapolis, where he was a producer and correspondent for a statewide magazine program. He also wrote and produced historical, documentary, and educational programs.

His next job was on another statewide magazine program, but in a larger state—his home state of California--as a correspondent for KVIE-TV in Sacramento.

In 2000, Dave completed his pilgrimage into the "magazine" genre by signing up at the country's "original" magazine format television program—"Evening Magazine." (Launched by KPIX back in 1976, and syndicated around the country under the "PM" banner.)

Then he turned a page in his "magazine" career.

In 2005, Dave was on the team that, with market research, created the "Eye On The Bay" series. A departure from the traditional magazine format, each "Eye on the Bay" program focuses on a single topic of interest. EOTB is a nightly program that celebrates all the Bay Area has to offer and how to live and travel affordably in one of the most beautiful, but, expensive regions in the world.

Dave's grand experiment in magazine-format television programming enters its 20th year.

He won a handful of honors for his documentary work and 12 Emmy Awards for his writing and feature reporting and story- telling.

Oh… And Dave was managing editor of his high school newspaper. That should count for something, right?

Dave lives in Walnut Creek with his wife Sandy, daughter Emma, and son Colin.
